This is the first session in the AAVC 12-lecture series. In this session, Dr. Szilagyi will present on Childhood Trauma and Resilience: Trauma-Informed Care. (Lecture/Interactive Q&A).

Dr. Szilagyi is the President-elect of the National American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and a primary care pediatrician, professor of pediatrics, interim division chief of general pediatrics, and section chief of developmental-behavioral pediatrics at UCLA. Dr. Szilagyi’s research focuses on evidence-based screening and services integration into primary care and the identification and management of adverse childhood experiences.

In this session, attendees will learn: 

  • The prevalence and clinical importance of identifying trauma and its presentation in children.

  • The importance of building and promoting safe, stable, nurturing caregiving.

  • Strategies to promote resilience of children with trauma histories in pediatric settings.
